After 31 years of service at Luminous and 44 years in the sign industry, Greg Downs celebrated his retirement on Dec. 31, 2015.

Greg was hired March 12, 1984. He had been working at Hedges Sign Company in Salina for 13 years when he moved to Luminous to work in installation and later plastics, assembly, neon patterns, service work and eventually Plant Foreman. When he came to Luminous, Greg started in the shop and was put in charge within a few months. He served as production manager until he moved into the expeditor position in 2012 following the retirement of Jeff Corcoran.

At his retirement celebration, some current shop employees recalled how they had been hired by Greg. He leaves a legacy in the people he hired, trained and mentored through the years.

Greg developed great vendor relationships. As production manager, he purchased inventory items. As expeditor, he purchased outsourced signs or pieces of signs.

Greg was always helpful and a great team player at Luminous. His creativity was amazing and it was fascinating and fun to see how his mind works. He would always think of options and alternative methods. Maybe if retirement doesn’t work out, Greg can always come back!

All of us at Luminous are grateful for Greg he has done to serve the company throughout his career.

Thank you, Greg!
